How to Get More Video Shares

by Steven Washer on January 7, 2014

Getting lots of video views is bunk. Getting lots of qualified views is priceless. And the best way to get qualified views is for others to share your video.

The problem is that we do kind of a half-hearted version of this when we really should be throwing ourselves into the job. But what does that actually mean? How would that look?

Funny you should ask 🙂

By the way, there’s a handy-dandy checklist for new subscribers on how to do this. Just subscribe and it’s yours automatically! Current subscribers can a get their free copy by sending an email request to clientcare@brainyvideo.com. Just say “I want shares” in the subject line.

Current subscribers will recognize a cameo appearance from Stevie. Please cut him some slack. He’s here evidently straight from a trip to the dentist…

One more thing. If you’re an It’s a Wonderful Life fan, look for our hidden tribute right at the end of the video. Shhh!

PLEASE NOTE. VERY IMPORTANT.

EVEN THOUGH I SAY IN THE VIDEO TO CONTACT ME TO GET THE SYSTEM, THIS IS NO LONGER NECESSARY.

THE LINK BELOW WILL TAKE YOU THERE RIGHT AWAY.

Thanks, Marlies. It was too much fun to make! Though that may not be such a bad thing 😉

Great acting Steve. The Stevie interaction is pretty cool!

Thanks, Shama! It would not have been possible without the new system we used to create the correct timing between the two characters. I’m glad you noticed the difference 🙂

Have you seen hydravid from the same stable as the hangout plugin? At least the current launch seems to offer a cheap option for uploading videos to a variety of sites as well as some social media sites. Any ideas or views?

I tried a lot of these, especially when I was starting out.

The main problem is that they take the “social” out of social media, so it kinda undermines the purposes of these sharing sites.

Plus I found that none of these automated solutions worked in the end from a technical standpoint. Not saying anything bad about this one. It’s a nice sales page. I just haven’t found any use for this sort of solution.

Great video, Steve. Thanks for the helpful tips. I played to the end for the “Wonderful Life” tribute – Stevie, saying “I’m all right”? I thought maybe you’d play a bell so he’d get his “wings.”

Steve January 7, 2014 at 8:54 pm

Bingo! You must be a keen observer to have caught that one!

Great Video Steve (and Stevie) 🙂

Your timing for the dual characters is spot on, Steve. I am assuming you use special video edititing software to accomplish this?

Anyway, I also like the reference to “It’s A Wonderful Life”.

BTW… did Stevie ever GET his wings?? LOL

Steve January 8, 2014 at 7:59 am

Thanks, Larry. Actually, editing was only a small part of how we did the timing. And well, Stevie HAD his wings, and now he has a big repair bill…or I do. Oh, my head hurts trying to figure it out 😉

Funny video Steve, and thanks for the reminder to ask for shares. It makes sense. When I think about my own sharing behavior online, I often share things when they move me in one way or another. Which, as you said, means I don’t often share trainings or business videos – unless someone asks me to. The power of asking is highly overlooked. Asking goes beyond sharing videos too. It is incredible what happens when you stop ‘wishing’ for results and start ‘asking’ instead. People generally want to help, they like sharing, they like being a part of something bigger than themselves. Just ask!

Well said, Bob. It’s kind of the “elephant in the room” that I wanted to put into better focus. Thanks!

Great video as always Steve. Stevie has grown since I last saw him. What have you been feeding him?

Steven Washer January 8, 2014 at 1:16 pm

I’m not sure, but even though he grew, his voice shrunk! 🙂

Hi Steven

Excellent video and really like the tips on sharing your videos online. It is becoming increasingly difficult to get viewers to actually click those buttons for the very reasons you explain. I am finding there needs to be something really special to entice people to make that small effort more so than ever before.

You’re not alone, Grahame. Because information is essentially free everywhere, what we need to provide now is transformation. That’s when information transcends it’s stated purpose. You can do that in a number of ways. I tried two of them in this video: using (admittedly corny) humor and providing a little extra something to grab for later. It did work, by the way. We got five times the expected number of new subscribers this week.

The moral? Try something different. You never know with 100% certainty what might work, but your results will guide your future actions if you let yourself be teachable.

Great content, Steven, as always! Tech question: Are you using Keynote slides to zoom in on your text frames? I really like the effect. I’m using Sony Vegas Platinum for editing. Perhaps you have a tutorial somewhere in the Green Room?

Reply

Steven Washer January 16, 2014 at 6:48 pm

Hi Tom. Not sure which effect you’re asking about. The screenshots were made in Screenflow. The full-screen text shots were made with stock Final Cut Pro backgrounds and the Final Cut text generator.

The tutorial for doing the screenshot-type effects is in Audience Builders Blueprint 2.0 in the bonus section. I believe that course is shortly going into the Greenroom for all members.

Hope that helps!
