The Question That Stops Time in its Tracks

by Steven Washer on September 3, 2013

What if you could stop time?

A couple of weeks ago, you may have filled out a survey here. Thank you if you did! We’ve been going over those answers with a fine-toothed comb ever since.

One of the most unanimous responses had to do with time..or rather, lack of it. And as I was struggling with how to help with that, I suddenly remembered something that happened to me a long time ago.

If you’ve struggled with “Not enough time” or not enough of, well, anything, try this question. It can make all the difference.

Quick Announcement:

I’ve been quietly testing a new program with some of our premium members and it’s just about time to announce it.

Look for Video Flight Plan to land this weekend.

In the meantime, let’s talk about your answer to the question from the end of the video…or better yet, what’s your version of the question?

My first step would be to focus on using videos in all my online venues – website, Facebook, Google+ etc. Hopefully this would develop my expertise in using video and tracking how people view it, versus text and link based content.

Thanks for another fantastic video, Steve. I just love the feel and spirit of the videos.

Your idea is sound because not only does it allow you to repurpose content very easily, Google likes to see the same video in several places.

Good to know – thanks Steve!

Being comfortable in my own skin in front of the camera is what I’m working toward; delivering without performing; frankly, just being real. You do that in every video I’ve seen since I started working with you, Steven. I marvel at it, admire it, and covet it. I pray to achieve it … soon, please!

Focusing on one thing with laser-precision is a great idea, but focusing with passion, as you write about here, is one of the secret ingredients in your recipe for success!

By the way, Master of Video Presence is now open. I’m just sayin’ πŸ™‚

Hi Steve,

WOW! That was very powerful!

It hit a nerve in me – almost brought forth a tear or 3…

Talk about putting passion, personality and authentic feeling into a video. Dr Tom got it right!

You tha man! πŸ™‚

Thank you.

Eran

PS: Perhaps the fact that I always wanted to be a pilot but didn’t get there might have something to do with it… πŸ˜‰

PPS: I just got finished recording a 1hr camtasia screencast video. Does that count? πŸ˜‰

Thank you for your inspiring, caring, and truthful rendering.
I have a book coming out soon titled ‘the secret of living like God.’
Someday, I may get help from you with video stuff, and you from me with how to live like God.
Thank you again for your moving video.
I love it and God bless you, I would say.

RE: becoming a pilot…it’s never too late. πŸ™‚

And sure, making any kind of a video counts. So, if making a screencast video is your first step, then what’s your next step?

Hey Steve,

Thanks for the great content you always deliver! Love to hear that you are a pilot. I got certified as a skydiver in ’99, but I was PETRIFIED of those small planes I had to jump from…lol.

My “to-do” is to start getting videos done without trying to make them perfect. I keep trying to tweak with lighting, sound, etc and need to say “enough is enough” and get my message on video!

Cheers,
Tom

Exactly. They will get better over time, but not if you don’t send them out at some point. Get to where you’d give yourself a “C” and make the jump! πŸ™‚

Love your video and the story – But you messed up your layers during editing.
Yep, that stuff even happens to a seasoned pro.
Towards the end of the video, when you raise your right arm it vanishes behind the picture-in-picture video… πŸ˜‰

Steven Washer September 3, 2013 at 12:27 pm

I did that just for you, Rudolf. I just wanted to keep at least one error in there for my sharp-eyed viewers πŸ™‚

Actually, I did notice it, but didn’t feel like re-editing and re-uploading and changing all the links, etc., etc., etc. At some point you just say “it’s good enough” and move on.

The bigger question is, if I had re-edited that part, would it have made the video even 5% better?

You are absolutely right, Steven. Don’t sweat the small stuff!
The story sells and yours is great.
There are two addictions I am suffering from: Shiny object syndrome and perfectionism…
I found my peace with the first one but better keep working on the second one…LOL

My first step(s) would be to set up my home office video set. Get my lighting & sound and background done. Then get all these ideas out my Head and on to film… Errr “Chip”!
Peace and Blessings to you all!

Hey Greg, that’s ambitious! 3 major steps. I agree with all 3, but I wonder about the order.

Which do you think is best; to determine a set first, or develop ideas/scripts that tell you what you need FOR a set? πŸ™‚

Great story, Steve! I drive by a regional airport every morning on my way to work; I’ve never asked myself “what if I could fly?” I took your survey last week and noticed the question about a course using an iphone 5; then I bought one when I upgraded my mobile phone plan. Now, I’m interested in learning how to use it for videos. I even found a website today (lifeisaprayer.com) where the writer reviewed different external microphones to use with an iphone. How cool is that?

Pretty cool, Dave. Sounds like Kismet to me!

Love this video! Your warmth and personality really come through. πŸ™‚

Wish I had sound quality like that! πŸ™ But I DID purchase the mic adapter you recommended for my iPhone and it already shipped yesterday! I also downloaded the FiLMPRO app you recommended. If I can figure out how to use it, I might be able to do another video for you by Tuesday. πŸ™‚

Your videos always make me smile, just like I would if you were sitting across the table from me saying all that stuff. Loved the poverty line…still plan to post another try at the video for my artofequus site!

Thanks for the reminder and smiles.
