Cinemarketing: a 20 year journey

Everything old is new again
Have you ever noticed how interesting it is to watch old-fashioned songs and movies come back again transformed for a new generation? From the old Monkee's tune "I'm a Believer" to the Smash Mouth re-interpretation, from the Frank Sinatra version of Ocean's 11 in 1960 to the George Clooney vehicle in 2001, re-imagining in the popular culture has always been a strong industry force.

Business Video takes on new life
Business video has been around almost since motion pictures. Industrials, as they were called back in the 80's and 90's, existed in all shapes and sizes and levels of quality. It was always easy to spot the good from the bad and the ugly. It was more often than not a matter of dollars thrown into the production pool. Things might have gone on forever just like that, but then along came the internet.

Fast-Forward Video
I guess it's an understatement to say that the Internet has caused a rediscovery of video as a business tool. Video has a whole new life and that life has taken a magnificent variety. This insures, as anything does in Natural Selection, that video is going to be a force on the web for a long, long time.

Time to sift out the treasure from the trash
This very variety has made it increasingly difficult for the business owner to know what will best serve him or her. They have a story to tell, but there are so many competing models of storytelling (some which don't even qualify) that it becomes paralyzing to many.

Enter the Cinemarketer
We want you to consider BrainyVideo.com your home for all things business video. It's a place to come to get sane and sensible advice, to separate hype from hope, the usable from the useful, the ergonomic from the truly functional. And while those distinctions may seem a bit artificial to you now, I promise they won't after you've been here for a while and become a Cinemarketer, one who expertly promotes business through the use of video.

Where did this idea come from?
In my life I've been an actor, a director, a filmmaker, a teacher and a writer. Acting taught me the oddities of human behavior, directing taught me how to organize ideas into stories, writing to be structured and simple, and teaching to communicate what's important and inspiring. All of it has culminated in the idea of the Cinemarketer. You'll learn how to become one if you hang around here long enough. :)

By the way, you may notice a bit of flying imagery on this site. I can't help it. I’m a pilot. If you visit my studio you may be invited for a flight to Martha’s Vineyard, so bring your goggles!

Sincerely,

Steve sig

“Steve is a gifted, multi-faceted communications visionary who is equally able to work in the creative and technical fields. He has the eye of a cinematographer, the voice of a poet, the authority of experience, and the humour of somone who has lived a life fully and experiences its foibles. Unlike many people who work in communications, he can sense what is a wave and what is the incoming tide, and anticipate its effects, and work to maximize the opportunities. A great communicator, storyteller, and all in all, a really good guy, who is also the worlds greatest pilot. My words, not his.”
